Financial Aid For Front Step and Deck Railings

If you’re a senior living in Manitoba and need help making your home safer, the Manitoba Safe and Healthy Home for Seniors program could help. You might qualify for funding to install essential safety features like grab rails or stair railings. Here’s a simple guide to see if you’re eligible and how aluminum railings can make your home safer.

Who Can Apply?

The program helps seniors in Manitoba who need home modifications for mobility or to complete daily tasks. To apply, you must:

  • Live in Manitoba full-time
  • Be 65 years or older
  • Have a household income under $60,000
  • Have trouble with mobility or daily tasks like walking, using stairs, or getting in and out of your home.

If you meet these requirements, you could get up to $5,000 every three years to make changes to your home ($15,000 lifetime). For seniors in rural or remote areas, the grant amount goes up to $6,500 every three years ($15,000 lifetime)

What Does the Grant Cover?

The funding covers basic changes that help make your home safer. This can include:

  • Aluminum railings for your deck or front steps: These can help you safely move in and out of your home.
  • Grab rails: Great for entryways or near steps to help with balance.
  • Ramps or stair lifts: If you struggle with stairs, these can help you access your home more easily.

Some items aren’t covered, like wooden ramps, walk-in tubs, or new home upgrades, so it’s important to check the details.

Why Aluminum Railings?

At Winnipeg Deck and Rail, we specialize in affordable aluminum railings. Here’s why aluminum is a great choice:

  • Durable: Aluminum doesn’t rust and can handle Manitoba’s tough weather.
  • Low-maintenance: Aluminum railings require little upkeep.
  • Affordable: Our aluminum railings are strong, safe, and affordable.

How Railings Can Help

Falls are a major concern for seniors, and can have serious long term consequences for mobility. Adding railings to your deck or front steps can help prevent accidents. Here’s how:

  • Support for stairs: Railings give you something to hold onto when using stairs.
  • Safety for entryways: Getting in and out of your home is easier and safer with a solid railing.
  • Peace of mind: Railings give both you and your family comfort, knowing your home is safer.

If you’re a senior in Manitoba, the Safe and Healthy Home for Seniors Program may cover home-safety upgrade expenses. Aluminum railings and grab rails are affordable and effective ways to improve safety, and help with accessibility. At Winnipeg Deck and Rail, we provide durable, long-lasting and affordable options to meet your needs.
